How I came across this book

I was casually browsing through one of my favorite shopping sites flipkart.com one day, when this particular book caught my eye. 'superfoods Make Your Child a Genius' a very catchy title. The cover also said 'Stop filling the stomach, start feeding the brain.' Irresistible for any mom! I had to buy this!!

I placed an order for this book. Within 2 days it was delivered at my doorstep.

About the book

Authors
Amitabh Pandit and Minnie Pandit

Publisher
B Jain Publishers Pvt Ltd

Price
Rs.199 (Paperback), 274 Pages

My views about the book
This book is written in very simple and understandable language. It's mainly divided into 2 sections - Part I and Part II.
Part I is divided into several chapters which beautifully and clearly explain things like importance of right nutrition, impact of nutrition on nervous system, how certain foods boost brain power, immunity etc. There is also a chapter which has different strategies to inculcate good food habits in children of different age groups.
Apart from these, there is an FAQ section which clarify the common doubts that most of we parents would have. This section also has progress charts where we can track progress of our child(ren).

Part II has lots of awesome, easy to make, simple and most importantly healthy recipes which are also very very appealing to children! A win-win situation for moms as well as children!

The author has also very thoughtfully included a few pages in the beginning of the book which has English to Hindi translations of all the ingredients used in the recipes.

Final Verdict

All in all I would say this is an awesome book! A must have for all parents. Highly recommended!!

Johnson's Baby Cologne Review

How I came across Johnson's Baby Cologne

While I was casually browsing through the baby's/kids section in Hypercity, Malad, Mumbai, something new caught my eye - Johnson's baby cologne! Though it is mentioned on the bottle that this cologne is for babies, I bought it for my pre-preschooler. I convinced myself that if this is mild enough for babies, it should be good enough for my four year old. There were many variants on the shelf. There were no testers available, so I randomly picked the variant - 'Playful Tickle' from the 'Irresistibles Collection'

I did a search on one of the online shopping portals for babies/kids and found that the following variants are also available -
  • Regular
  • Bounce
  • Slide
  • Morning Dew
  • Heaven
  • Playful Tickle
  • Tumble
Such cute names!

About Johnson's Baby Cologne Playful Tickle

This particular variant of cologne comes in a light pink transparent bottle with a baby pink flip-top. The cologne itself is colorless.
Contents
Alcohol Denat., Water, Fragrance, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil.
Price
Rs.120 for 125 ml.

Also, important point to note, as mentioned on the label of the product -

USE UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION

We need to ensure that like all other cosmetic products/medicines, this should be kept out of reach of our curious lil children!

My Experience with Johnson's Baby Cologne Playful Tickle

On the bottle, the label says 'Apply regularly to stay fragrant, fresh and cool throughout the day.' I wish they company had given more information about how to apply, its safe to use from what age onward, who should avoid it, etc. on the bottle.
For my girl, I pour a few drops on my palm and dab it on her clothes. I am not at all comfortable putting this directly on her skin. The fragrance is initially quite strong. In a few minutes the strong scent goes away and we are left with a mild lingering fragrance which is very pleasant. The mild fragrance lingers on for 4-5 hours at least on clothes.
I did a search on on the Internet on how to use this cologne. I found this on the J&J website
(Please pay attention to the safety tip mentioned on the site. Please consult a doctor if you think your child could be allergic to it.)-

How to Use

To give your baby a fresh scent, pour a small amount of JOHNSON'S® Baby Cologne in the palm of your hand and gently apply to your baby's skin.

When to Use

Use JOHNSON'S® Baby Cologne anytime you want to give your baby a clean, fresh scent.

Safety Tip

Keep out of reach of children. Do not use without consulting a doctor if your child has asthma or allergies or if there is a family history of either. Serious breathing problems could occur. Keep in a cool place protected from direct sunlight.

Final Verdict

Its overall an average product. But like i mentioned, it should have come with more details on how to apply, its safe to use from what age onward, who should avoid it, etc. on the bottle. Secondly, the flip top cap makes it a little inconvenient to use and we may end up using more product than required. A spray bottle would have been more welcome.

Hamdard Roghan Badam Shirin Review

How I came across Hamdard Roghan Badam Shirin

My 4 year old princess has beautiful curly hair. It was not always like this. A  few months after she was born, when the first new tufts of soft curly hair began to appear, we were delighted to see those beautiful curls! I started using pure coconut oil to oil her hair and Johnson baby shampoo (review coming up) to wash it. Soon, we noticed that her hair was very rough, dry and easily tangled. No matter how much we took care of her hair, it was unmanageable! :( Like most new mothers, I was skeptical about using any new products on her. Then, as per many Indian traditions, we had her hair shaved off. We also hoped that after this, the quality of her hair would improve. But to our utter disappointment, it was still the same. The new hair that grew was equally unmanageable. Then a friend suggested I try almond oil.
Most almond hair oils which were available commercially have mineral oil or some other oil as base and a very small quantity of almond oil. Hamdard Roghan Badam Shirin is 100% pure almond oil. I decided to give it a try.

About Hamdard Roghan Badam Shirin

The glass bottles comes in a yellow paper carton, with picture of almonds. This is how it looks -

The oil comes in a transparent glass bottle with a yellow lid. It is a light yellow oil with a mild scent of pure almonds.

Contents
The label says:
Each dose of 5 ml contains: 5 ml Roghan Badam Shirin obtained from Maghz Badam Shirin.

Price
Rs. 80 for 25 ml (This is the smallest bottle available. They have bigger ones too)

My experience with Hamdard Roghan Badam Shirin

This oil is neither too greasy or heavy, nor it is too light. Its just perfect. I take a small quantity of this oil, warm it up a little and apply this on her hair each night. By morning, it gets nicely absorbed and we get soft, lustrous, beautiful, (almost) tangle-free hair.

Within a couple of weeks after I started using this oil on her hair, the quality of her hair drastically improved. It became lustrous and almost tangle-free. Also, we noticed that her hair started looking thicker and the growth was faster.

I must also mention that the Johnson baby shampoo that we were using was quite drying on her hair. We stopped using that and switched to Johnsons Kids Shampoo (review coming up) instead. This made her hair even better.

On the carton, they have mentioned:

Though they have mentioned it can be consumed orally and can 2-3 drops are to be instilled in nose and ears, I totally refrain from doing all this.
Also, I prefer giving my kid whole almonds to eat rather than adding any oil to her food.

Final Verdict

Though this oil is quite expensive, I would say this is value for money. Totally worth buying.

Mommy's Rating

5/5!!
